Culture and Heritage
Saint Joseph's Church: An undeniable symbol of the renaissance of Le Havre, the Saint-Joseph church is an extraordinary building: its impressive dimensions and its appearance on the other side of the Atlantic disturb the religious references that make it one of the most most remarkable of the twentieth century in France. 130 Boulevard François 1ᴱᴿ, 76600 Le Havre
MuMa, Museum of Modern Art André Malraux: First museum rebuilt in France after the war and first House of Culture, on an exceptional site facing the entrance of the port, it embodies the symbol of the opening of the city on the world. "Le Havre, crossroads of transatlantic routes" offers a remarkable case to this ship of glass, steel and aluminum which access is, ultimate reference, by a footbridge.
Wine and Gastronomy
Tartarin: Annabelle and Jean-Luc Tartarin have imagined a refined and intimate space to accommodate a kitchen whose imagination feeds on small boat fishing and the kitchen garden. The passionate work of Jean-Luc on the cooking and balance of textures and tastes make it one of the most singular tables of France. A point of honor is put in the freshness and finesse of the products. The market is done every day, and the values of the French culinary tradition are respected.
The house offers a nice selection of takeaway. Ideal to organize parties, and receive at home with prestigious dishes.
The Markets: The atmosphere of the Le Havre markets has nothing to envy to the markets of Provence dear to Gilbert Bécaud. The banter of our market gardeners, early farmers, poultry farmers and cheese makers is in tune with the quality of their products. The stalls rival colors, freshness and greed and make appointments to consumers from different neighborhoods throughout the week ... Incontournable is the passage St Francois area (that of the Breton) to the early morning fish market where shells St Jacques , mackerel, sole, lobster, shrimps, whelks ... just landed boats are offered on ice beds. For a bit we would buy everything !!
L'Escapade: Cave and wine bar, Escapade offers an oenological trip through the regions of France. Place of relaxation and sharing, you will find many wines, beers, alcohols and local cheeses from short circuit, small family productions. At the bottom of the store, nestle a beautiful little garden and a beautiful terrace with sea view where you can take your time and enjoy a glass of wine, champagne or cider, accompanied by a charcuterie / cheese plate. All products you taste are for sale and all products for sale are to be tasted.
BEACH: Located 500 meters from the city center, it offers 2 kilometers of sand and pebble beach between Le Havre and Sainte - Adresse. Come with your hands in your pockets, for a swim in fresh water, the CNH pool is open to tourists and visitors from May to September (more info on the partner pools). Various structures are at your disposal for beach volleyball, street basketball, petanque. For stronger sensations, the skatepark with its bowl of 1200m ² is a vast gliding ground since it is the largest free open skatepark in France. Skateboarders, rollerbladers etc will be able to indulge while passers-by will be able to look at them with envy, surprise or astonishment. The 4 kms created by the talented landscaper Alexandre Chemetoff, in 1994 invite to the quiet progression, while the walk near the dikes on stormy days will offer the most adventurous a life-size show.
TETRIS: The Tetris takes place in this former military fort, invested for several years by associations, visual artists, music and theater schools, as well as municipal services, which work there every day. A veritable place of creative and cultural bubbling, the Fort is a haven of greenery in the heart of the city where it is good to walk around, visit the sheep (eco-grazing), enjoy Super Fort which offers the opportunity to eat outdoors ( wood oven, griddle on request) ...
Traditions
The Corsiflor: For the Havrais, there are almost unmissable appointments. And this is the case for Corsiflor which, over the decades, has become a real institution marking the second half of August. Thirty or so floats set off to make the tour of the Commerce Basin, in music and in good spirits, with numerous musical groups invited and all these floats, imagined and patiently built by the volunteers of the different district committees of Le Havre.
Festival of the sea: Traditional rendezvous of lovers of the open sea, the festival of the sea of Le Havre is located in the Saint-François district. The small fishing district will be the scene of many activities that will animate the docks and pools, all along the weekend. On the program, sports activities (kayak, stand-up paddle), exhibitions and activities on maritime activities, a buccaneers' market, not to mention the rescue demonstrations and the stand of the National Society of Rescue at Sea (SNSM).
Leisure and Entertainment
Parachute jump, flying over the Bay of Seine by helicopter or plane, bowling parties furious after shooting the edges on a sailboat or rather zip line, canoeing, cooking lessons and boarding pirate ship with family? Is there a little more I leave? Feel at ease during your stay in Le Havre in Normandy!
Sea trip: Discover the first French port for containers! For 1h15 our Captain will present all the activity of a modern commercial port approaching closer to the active vessels. Go fishing for seasonal fish in July and August. Fisherman initiated or beginner, our crew will be there to give you his advice.
Bee Le Havre City Tour: Bee Le Havre City Tour allows you to (re) discover the Porte Océane during a wonderful audio-guided panoramic family tour of 1 hour in the streets of Le Havre and Sainte-Adresse, in a minibus 30 seats equipped with a convertible roof (covered in rainy weather!). More than just a tourist bus, our daily service will make you (re) dive all year round in the rich heritage of our city, its 500 years of history and its emblematic neighborhoods of the low city and high city, the rhythm a surprising intergenerational dialogue. Comfortably seated in this elevated convertible minibus, all the surprising facets of its agglomeration (its panoramas, its seafront, its bay, its reconstructed city center ...) are really spectacular.
Shopping
In the pedestrian streets of the Perret sector, around Les Halles Centrales, in the Gobelins / St Vincent district, in the luminous Espace Coty or in the astonishing Docks Vauban with their past and maritime architecture, the shopping offer is wide. From big brands to more confidential ones, from deco to local products, there is enough to warm up your credit card !!
