To visit one of the most beautiful museums in France

At the turn of the street of Italy, near Cours Mirabeau, you will find the Granet museum. Located in the former palace of Malta, it now houses collections from the fourteenth to the twentieth century, works by Rembrandt, Ingres, Cezanne and the donation of Cezanne to Giacometti.

The modern art collection of the Granet Museum has expanded considerably with the deposit of the collection of Jean Planque, Swiss painter and collector. It is presented in an old chapel near the Museum: real gems of Aix architecture recently restored seventeenth. CREATION OF SANTONS

The creations of santons of the Maison Fouque are known and collected all over the world.

For 4 generations, the Fouque family has been perpetuating a unique and ancestral know-how in the strictest respect of the Art of Santon. Visit Fouque House, labeled Living Heritage Company allows the public to discover live all stages of the manufacture of the famous Coup de Mistral ©, emblem and exclusive creation of Maison Fouque since 1952, considered the masterpiece of the art of the santon.

An exhibition of the large family nativity scene and table of 13 desserts is open free of charge throughout the year to the public recreating the soul and climate of Provence.

On site, visit the workshop, exhibition, sale of santons and medals of the Monnaie de Paris.

BENEDICTION OF THE CALISSONS

Every year the calisson receives a blessing. To attend, meet on the first Sunday of September at Saint Jean Church in Malta.

THE 13 DESSERTS

From honey to quince, from pump to oil to shuttles, from calissons to nougats, don't forget chocolates, from wine to cooked wine, from olive oils and poultry, all products and traditional Christmas desserts delight the taste buds of young and old.

Traditionally, it is at the return of midnight mass that the 13 desserts are tasted. The number 13 is highly symbolic since it represents the number of guests of the Last Supper: the Messiah surrounded by his 12 apostles. The 13 desserts appear at the beginning of the 19th century in the city of Marseille, door of the Orient, which opens first to the exotic world by consuming dates, oranges and mandarins.

- dried fruits called the four beggars, by analogy with the robes of the mendicant orders: the raisins for the Dominicans, the dried figs for the Franciscans, the hazelnuts or walnuts for the Augustinians and the almonds for the Carmelites

- white grapes
- Christmas melon
- oranges or tangerines
- Aix calissons.

TRADITIONAL PARTY

Near the bust of Frédéric Mistral and the Oustau de Prouvènço, this traditional festival highlights a culture enriched over the ages, which is transmitted proudly from one generation to another.

Wine & Gastronomy

From olive growing to aioli, the oil pump, Aix en Provence and its region will delight you taste buds.

Many wine-producing Châteaux open their doors to the general public, with for some, like Château Lacoste at Puy Ste Réparade, a breathtaking cultural tour through the vineyards.

THE CALISSON

A blend of candied almonds and melons with the scent of orange blossom, the calisson is a concentrate of the sun all by itself. This is THE great specialty of Aix-en-Provence.

FOLLOW THE ROAD OF LOCAL PRODUCTS

Throughout this circuit of 80 km, you will walk the Provencal villages. The craftsmen make you discover their productions, the artists their works and the castles open their doors for you. Put your senses on the alert!

From Aix, join Venelles and its Liquoristerie de Provence. You can visit the aromatic garden, as well as the maceration tanks and finish with a tasting. The Jardin d'Éguilles, where abundant and varied vegetation abounds, welcomes the works of the contemporary artist Max Sauze. Visits are open all year by appointment. In Saint-Cannat, Château de Beaupré has been producing powerful wines for 4 generations. You can also discover gourmet products: olive oil, tapenade, jam ... Head to Coudoux and its oil mill where you will be explained the processes and stages of manufacture of the oil. The old castle of the medieval village of Cabriès was destroyed at the end of the 12th century and rebuilt in the 17th century. Today it houses the collection of painter Edgar Melik. The price of entry is reduced if you hold the Pass Card, available at the Tourist Offices, museums, sites and monuments participating in the operation.

In Aix-en-Provence, the mild climate also invites you to enjoy the evenings. The Sainte Victoire mountain is known around the world. It owes its notoriety to the sixty works of Paul Cézanne who stage. If you want to see it from all angles, a car tour (75km) offers great views of the mountains and allows you to visit the villages dominated by its wall.

Leave Aix by the "Route de Cézanne", then join the village of Tholonet and its castle of the eighteenth century. Then admire the most beautiful mountain view from Beaurecueil. After having stopped at the museum space of the Maison Sainte-Victoire in Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon, continue towards Pourrières through Puyloubier. It was at Pourrières that the Roman General Marius defeated the Teutons in 102 BC. Continue your journey to Vauvenargues where you will see the castle of Picasso and push to Jouques by the Grand Sambuc Pass to join the former residence of the archbishops of Aix.

Aix also offers a wide choice of bookstores, galleries, decoration shops and souvenirs (Spirit of places, Souleiado, Olivades, L'Occitane, Place aux Oils ...).
